Imagine being pregnant for the first time, having a miscarriage then finding out that somehow you “broke the law” and now have to be locked in a cage for the next twenty years.
That’s exactly what happened after a Purvi Patel was sentenced to the harsh felony prison term for “feticide” and “neglect of a dependent,” even though she says that she had simply had a miscarriage – still fairly early on in her pregnancy.
